Esoteric Christianity and the Guiding Spirits of Humanity
GA 130

The sixth congress of the Federation of European Sections of the Theosophical Society (Adyar) was planned for September 17–21, 1911, in Genoa. However, it was cancelled at short notice and in a misleading way. The event, under the guiding theme “From Buddha to Christ,” was also expected to clarify the positions of Annie Besant and Rudolf Steiner. Steiner, who was surprised by the cancellation in Munich, continued his journey south through Switzerland to Italy. Instead of Genoa, he gave lectures on similar topics to those planned in Lugano on September 17 and in Locarno on September 19. Two days later, on September 21, Steiner spoke in Milan to an intimate circle of members about Buddha and Christ. A week later he was in Neuchâtel and spoke at the inauguration of the Christian Rosenkreutz branch in the house of Professor Karl Petz about the life and work of Christian Rosenkreutz. The subjects of the lectures collected in this volume are basically further elaborations of the presentations in the small writing The Spiritual Guidance of Humanity (GA 15), which appeared in June 1911, shortly before the first lecture in this volume.
