Dies ist die Einführung, welche Edouard Schuré seinem Buche «Les grands initiés» vorgesetzt hat. Das Buch ist in erster Auflage im Verlage von Perrin in Paris 1889 erschienen. Es erlebt eben seine 7. Auflage. In Frankreich, und auch in anderen europäischen Ländern hat es vielen den Anstoß gegeben zu einer tieferen Erfassung der Weltgeheimnisse und Lebensrätsel. Es gehört sowohl durch die Kunst der Darstellung wie durch die Inspiration, aus der sein Inhalt stammt, zu den glanzvolisten Schriften in der theosophisch-mystischen Literatur der Gegenwart.
Dieser Beitrag («Hermes», Die Mysterien Ägyptens) ist dem Werke «Die großen Eingeweihten» von Edouard Schuré entnommen. Es soll hier zugleich darauf hingewiesen werden, daß dieses ganze bedeutsame Werk in Kürze vollständig in deutscher Übersetzung durch Marie von Sivers im Verlage von M. Altmann in Leipzig erscheinen wird. Wir durften mit Genehmigung der Übersetzerin und des Herrn Verlegers Teile hier abdrucken.
