Aber der feine Beobachtungssinn und die eindringliche Darstellungsgabe, die in ihm so wunderbar anmutig sind, wirken wie eine dramatische Spannung. Man wird gutmütig, wenn man das Buch liest. Die breite Behaglichkeit, in der es geschrieben ist, tut dazu das Ihrige. Es wird wenige Bücher geben, bei denen man so wenig in Aufregung kommt wie bei diesem und bei denen zugleich so viel wirkliche Seelenerkenntnis in uns übergeht. Man nennt Lazarus auch den Begründer der Völkerpsychologie. Diese Wissenschaft ist noch zu problematisch, um beim 25jährigen Professorenjubiläum des Begründers über sie etwas sagen zu dürfen.
